Puppy love
One of the little boys in Baby Girl's class has recently moved up to the toddler room, having passed his 1 year birthday and being pretty skilled as an independant little walker. However he made a reappearance in the infant room today (not sure why; maybe they needed to manage the ratios or something). And Baby Girl is quite smitten with him.
When I went to pick her up from school today he was sitting in his high chair and she had just woken from a nap. I picked her up out of her crib and her eyes immediately located and locked onto him in the chair and she beamed this huge bright smile at him from my arms. She watched intently as he finished up his snack and the teacher helped him down to the floor to play, and the moment his feet touched the ground, Baby Girl was scrambling in my arms to get down to the floor too. When I set her down she grabbed my hands and made a beeline for him. We proceeded to chase... er... follow him around the classroom for the next 20 minutes.
He managed to stay one step ahead of her most of the time, but occasionally he'd stop and she'd be right there beside him, reaching out to touch his face or his hand, and babbling excitedly, eyes a-twinkling and cheeks flush and little face beaming with happiness. He'd brush her hand off and move away, and she'd follow. He tried to take refuge with the other little boy in the class, even going so far as to point to him when she approached as if to say "Hey... why don't you bug him instead?" but she was not deterred.
Eventually he gave in and decided it was fun being followed and made a game of it, much to Baby Girl's delight. He even flashed her some (relatively) toothy smiles of his own.
It was a pretty priceless scene, and had her teacher and I in stitches... ah... if only it could all stay so simple and innocent!

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking Baby Girl's Daddy might not have had the same reaction... :-)
