Hearing things...?
"Boooon". That's Baby Girl speak for "balloon" I believe. Sometimes she doesn't say the "n", so it's just "boooo". But I'm positive she's talking about balloons.
I swear today I also heard Baby Girl mimic me saying:
shoes ("soooos")
yellow ("eh-yo")
ball ("bah")
thank you ("ankew")
yeah, that last one sounds like a stretch, but I swear that's what I heard. And she said it with a shy little smile.
I know, I know. It might just be a case of mom-hearing. But I'm just callin' it like I hear it.
And I was right about hi, fish, and book, afterall!
I picked her up at noon today after daycare called saying she was running a fever and not eating. I got there about 15 minutes later (love the fact that daycare is so close to work) and she was sleeping. I woke her gently, and she got up with a big grin, insisted on being lifted out of the crib, and the minute her little feet touched the floor she was off and toddling all over the room talking up a storm and smiling and laughing. She did feel a tad warm but otherwise fine. I took her to the park for some swing action, we went to the grocery store to get snack food (cheese slices and whole milk yogurt) and then came home. Since being home at 2:00 she's consumed several baby-bites from a whole peach (PCC gives kids a free fruit and Baby Girl insisted on a peach today. So I washed it and took some bites to get it started for her, and she actually managed to get some tiny chunks out with her teeth and eat it! Negligible quantity, mind you, but she enjoyed the experience!), about an 8th of a whole cheese sandwich (I ate the rest for my lunch), a 7oz bottle and a 6oz bottle. And no afternoon nap until 5:40, when I finally was able to get her to close her eyes while watching and listening to her favourite Baby Einstein DVD ("Baby Monet: Discovering the Seasons").
I have to wonder what this late afternoon nap is going to do to her bedtime. Although it's not like it's been consistent of late anyway. Must be the season and weather though because every person I talk to with kids, no matter their kids' ages, says the same thing: They go to bed with the sun around 9:30 or 10pm and get up with the sun around 5 or 5:30am.
Baby Girl has also been super keen on the baby bjorn of late. She'll actually decide she wants to be in the baby bjorn, go to the kitchen and get me to come with her, tug on the baby bjorn where we keep it hanging, and look at me and make "aaaaaah aaaaah aaaah" noises. If I just take it down for her to play with she gets upset. But if I put it on she gets quiet and waits until I'm done and then asks to be picked up. She's been doing this on almost a nightly basis the last few nights.
Anyway... off to finish some chores and think about getting dinner ready, while I still have a window of opportunity during her nap. Although I have to admit one of the nice things as she's getting older and more mobile is she's getting more independent in playing and getting to what she wants. Of course, it's all a double-edged sword. But now that I've developed the fabled mom "eyes-in-the-back- of-my-head" fairly fully, I can actually get some chores done around the house while she's awake. However i'm not one to waste these little nap breaks when I still get them!
