A toddler's take on "Family Style"

Posted by Heather on October 22, 2006 at 10:41 PM

With Tim gone to Nashville for the next couple of nights, our planned dinner menu is fairly... simple. Tonight's menu featured chicken nuggets (all organic, and baked not fried), and peas and corn, followed by papaya chunks for dessert.

I served the peas and corn as I usually do, in a bowl with a serving spoon, and dished a little out to her plate and then mine.

She had almost consumed her portion when she pointed to the bowl and asked for "mah?". I started to serve her when she protested, so I moved the bowl and serving spoon closer to her (she's been practicing spooning from one container into another)so she could try serving herself.

Well, she picked up the spoon, upside down, and banged it a couple of times on her plate, and then before I had time to react she reached into the bowl with both hands, came out with two fistfuls of corn and peas, and crammed them both into her mouth at the same time.

Then she smiled at me, and started to reach for more when I moved the bowl away, and gave her the spoon and explained that the food in the bowl is for everyone and she needed to use a spoon.

Don't think it got through, but we'll keep working on it :-)
