Let's Pretend!

Bobbin's in full-on pretend-play mode now. It's quite astounding to watch the pieces come together in her mind that allows her to take the imaginative leap into the land of make-believe!

Lately she loves pretending she's a dog. She'll crawl around on all fours, barking and panting and wagging her "tail". It's totally cute. She likes it when I do it too. Tommy thinks we're both nuts.

Since we bought her the Little People house for her birthday, she's gotten more and more into pretend play with it as well. "Mommy" and "Daddy" take turns going potty, and taking baths, and using the phone and doing the laundry and going "nite-nite" in her little people world. If you tell her "Mommy" needs to go potty she'll lift the seat and pop her onto the toilet. There's a lot of hopping up and down from place to place (that's her way of making them "walk") and getting shoved out the doors and windows too.

Today she did something new though. Today "Mommy" was apparently hungry. So she hopped up and down over to the fridge and opened the door (Bobbin used "Mommy" to open the door, so it was as if "Mommy" was opening it herself). With the door open, "Mommy" proceeded to hop up and down while Bobbin made her eating noise (her "Ppah pppah pppah" lip-smacking noise). Then, apparently not quite satiated by her at-the-fridge snack, "Mommy" made her way (hopping, of course) from the fridge to the kitchen table, where she sat down in a chair and proceeded to "ppah pppah ppah" consume the rest of her meal. Then she got up and went potty, and nite-nite.

The whole making "Mommy" eating sounds and the connection of eating with the fridge and the kitchen table is all new make-believe for her. Nite-nite, bathing, and pottying are old hat. But now her little people snack and dine! And from the sounds of the lip-smacking, I'd say they're feasting quite well. Although they could probably cut down on the fruit and fiber, judging from the amount of time they spend on the potty afterwards.

After a good "night" sleep, "Mommy", "Daddy", and "Baby" then woke up and apparently went to the "zoo". Or they went to Africa. This is my interpretation, anyway, of the little hopping trek they made one by one from the house over to the short plant table where our two decorative wooden elephants reside. Apparently the family was there to see the elephants. "Mommy" and "Baby" even rode on the back of the mommy elephant (they kept sliding off of the baby elephant's back, but the wooden mommy elephant has a nice flat back).

A typical busy "family" weekend for the Little People, it was. Modelled rather nicely after Bobbin's own family experience. All the Little People house needs now is a TV so they can watch Sunday football!

Here's just a very short clip of her Little People pretend world:

Oh, and the potty? It's over at the far end of the house. If you watch closely you can see her smile as she puts "Mommy" on the potty and waits for her to "go". :-)
