This evening after dinner Bobbin decided she didn't want to wear her diaper anymore. So I helped her take it off. After a while of running around the house with a bare bottom I decided it was time to cover up again. But Bobbin didn't want any part of that. So I took out the pack of "big girl training pants" that I had been keeping in her closet, and asked her if she wanted to try wearing a pair. "Eah" was the response.

So I sat her down on her little bench in her bedroom, and showed her how to put them on one leg at a time, and then had her stand up and showed her how to pull them up by herself. She was so impressed with herself, and so excited. I explained again that "these aren't diapers. These are big girl training pants!" to which she responded with an enthusiastic "Toot toot!"

That's my girl :-)

The rest of the evening was spent showing off her big girl training pants ("toot toot!"). First stop, of course, were her trains. Next was Daddy. Then kitty and Grover and Elmo.

After we had made the rounds we went back into her bedroom and practiced pulling them down and up. She was extremely proud.

When it was finally time to get ready for bed I explained it was time to take her big girl training pants off and put a diaper on to go nite-nite. I told her if she wanted to wear her big girl training pants to school tomorrow she could. She pulled down her training pants all by herself, and then sat down on the floor on top of the diaper I had already spread out, and laid back with a big grin on her face.

Goofy, silly, sweet, proud girl :-)

We've been also using our potty language (no... not THAT language) around the house for the last few months. And this evening when we were playing with her little people house she picked up the "daddy" put him on the "potty", turned to me and said "daddy poddy poo poo". She's been saying the word "poddy" (potty) for some time now, but she's never talked about what you put in it. We've actually been using the word "poopy" at home so I'm thinking she might have decided to use "poo poo" instead because she hears other kids at school call it that. Dunno. Don't really care :-) She's talking about it, and that's a good step in the right direction! Of course, in a few months we'll be trying to teach her how to be a little more discreet in her pronouncements but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it :-)

The other little revelation today came when I was picking her up at daycare. As we were leaving, her friend Christopher's mom arrived and when she saw Bobbin she said to me "Yesterday we tried for 10 minutes to get Christopher to say 'please' but Bobbin said it right away". One of her teachers who happened to be in the lobby confirmed "Yup. She said 'please'. Clear as day". Of course, Tim and I have yet to hear it :-) But at least she's starting to say it at school!
