Tim and I may need to rethink our old-age strategy
The conversation started off simply. Bobbin wanted to know why her friends E and Z don't have doggies. E and Z parents be warned: This question is likely to come up the next time we see you. We apologize in advance for any notions that this puts into E and Z's brains, and the ensuing conversations you will be having with them :-). According to Bobbin everyone needs to have doggies. Bobbin decided in the end, that E and Z need to go to the doggie store where they can get new doggies of their very own, who can be friends with Tommy, our doggie.
This train of thought immediately inspired another, and that was
Bobbin: Mommy, Bobbin needs to have a new doggie too.
Mommy: We already have a doggie, Bobbin. We have Tommy.
Bobbin: Yeah, well, Tommy's getting to old for me. I need a new doggie.
Mommy: Well honey, Tommy is a part of our family. We don't replace him just because he's getting old. We love him and he loves us.
Bobbin: Well, Tommy is getting old and he might get broken, and I need to get a new doggie when Tommy is broken.
Mommy: Well, honey, someday it's true that Tommy will be too old, and he will die (note: the concept of "dying" has been a frequent topic of conversation for a while now). And when that happens we will miss him and be sad, and it will take some time before we'll be ready for a new doggie. In the meantime we need to love Tommy and take care of him.
In the back of my mind I'm thinking we need to save more aggressively for our own long term post-retirement care strategy. I'm not exactly sure what constitutes "broken" in Bobbin's mind so best be ready for any possibility.

You can tell Bobbin that we did have a doggie. He was delicious.

Oh... but I also remember you said you had a hard time finding a good cut of beef.
It's all becoming clear.
But I agree - it was delicious!
